If the technology and performance claim are eligible to apply to the ETV Program, the applicant can submit a Formal Application and a $1,500 CDN application fee (non-refundable). The Formal Application requires additional information about the technology, the claim to be verified, and the data and information that is available to support the claim. The Formal Application is available either by regular mail or electronically in PDF format here, and can be faxed back to ETV Canada with a signature. An original should follow by regular mail or by courier with the $1,500 CDN fee.

ETV Canada reviews the Formal Application for completeness and determines if it can be accepted into the verification process. If the application is not acceptable, the applicant may choose to modify and resubmit it. There are no additional fees for resubmitting the application. If however, the resubmitted application is still not acceptable, the $1,500 fee is still applicable to renew the formal application process at a later date.

Similarly, at this application review stage, ETV Canada may determine that the data supporting the claim is inadequate. If the applicant wishes to continue, it is their responsibility to first arrange and pay for the generation of the necessary data. Alternatively, the applicant may choose to modify their claim to align it with the supporting data.

Although ETV Canada would not be directly involved in the testing to develop additional data, it may outline the data requirements within the context of the General Verification Protocol.

The formal application should be accompanied with the supporting data that is to be used in the verification process. Before confidential information or data can be passed to ETV Canada, a Confidentiality Agreement will be signed. ETV Canada will discuss the scope and cost of the proposed program with the applicant. The cost of verification will include the administration and management of the application process by ETV Canada, and the actual validation by the Verification Entity of the claim, using the supporting data. This cost will vary from application to application, and will depend on the scope of effort involved in the verification process.

ETV Canada will discuss the scope and cost of verification with the applicant. Agreement will also be made on the Verification Entity, including resolution of any conflict of interest between the applicant and the Verification Entity.

If the proposed program and costs are accepted, the applicant enters into a contract with ETV Canada that will specify the verification entity to be used and the costs associated with the verification process.
